FAQ
-
Can I come alone?
Yes. Most people walk in solo.
Everyone shows up for the same reason, so it stops feeling “solo” pretty fast. You’ll settle in quicker than you think. -
Is this a dating event?
No. IRL isn’t built for matchmaking.
People come for conversation, not romance.
If two people are romantically available and end up clicking, that’s cool, but its not the event’s purpose. -
What’s the crowd like?
Kind, curious adults from Greater New Haven - mostly late 20s to 40s.
People who enjoy thoughtful conversation and want a night out that feels real, relaxed, and filled with great new people. -
What are the conversations like?
Comfortable and surprisingly interesting.
Each round starts with one smart prompt, which keeps the pressure low and helps things open up naturally.
You share whatever feels right for you. -
What if I’m shy or introverted?
This event is perfect for you. We put you with 2-3 friendly people who want to connect. We provide the structure that makes it easy to talk.
And if you need a moment, there’s a quiet Social Battery Recharge Station where you can step away and reset. -
Will I leave with new friends or contact info?
Often, yes - if you want to.
You’re invited to offer your information to someone you connected with, but no one will ask you for yours or put you in an uncomfortable spot.
You decide what you share and when. -
Is this a safe space?
Yes - fully. New Haven IRL is intentionally open, inclusive, and welcoming to everyone.
All genders, sexualities, races, and identities belong here. We don’t tolerate disrespect, exclusion, or anything that makes someone feel small.
-
Will every Social Salon feel the same?
No.
The structure stays steady so you know what to expect, but the mix of people, prompts, venue and energy makes every night different.
That’s part of the fun - the conversation is always new. -
Is it accessible?
We do our best but accessibility varies with the venue. Please check individual event details to be sure.
-
Is there food and/or alcohol?
Food will not be available during the event (you can’t talk while chewing!), but there is a bar with alcohol or non-alcoholic drinks for purchase.
-
Do I need to bring or prepare anything?
Just bring yourself and an open mind. We’ll do the rest.
-
What should I wear?
Most people dress “casual but I might meet someone cool tonight.” Wear whatever that means to you.
